Hard-Fi: Once upon a time in the west

This is HARD-FI's second album, having loved the first one (in fact I think there was only one track I ever skipped) I expected a lot from this helping...

SURBURBAN KNIGHTS: This first single packs a punch, no doubt you have heard it on the radio or on the ads. The background 'drunks' (yeaaaaaaaa, ooooooo rrrrrr aaaaaaa) give you the perfect 'sing in the shower' moment

I SHALL OVERCOME: Sounds a little messy, but the chorus keeps it all together

TONIGHT: Nice slow track, but once again those drunks sing in the background which doesn't ruin the song but it feels as though they are this albums 'third leg'. Reminds me of when SCOOTER used that damn chipmunk voice for every track, the novelty soon wears off

WATCH ME FALL APART: A slower track that reminded me of a song I already owned, after rummaging through my albums I remembered it was THE RASMUS (yes I own their album, wanna fight over it?!) This track could well be used in THE NIGHTMARE BEFORE CHRISTMAS,has a sort of gothic feel to it.

CLOSE MY EYES: Why the shouting?! and who are those people singing along in the background...are they related to those 'drunks'? How many people are in this band?!

TELEVISION: Could well be released as a single, sounds very 2007....I mean that it doesnt sound like HARD-FI have dragged their old sound into 2007, but that they have made a new one for this year to suit the songs already out there. Either way, liking this track!

HELP ME PLEASE: I love this song, but then again I have been listening to it for the last two years. It was a track on the WAR CHILD album (and sadly sounded a little better on there) but has been re-recorded for their second album. There is something slightly wrong about using a charity track as another track on an album....the lyrics suddenly lose their original meaning. Still, loved it first time around and enjoying it this time. Not bad for a two year old track!

CAN'T GET ALONG WITHOUT YOU: Straight away this sounds like the 2nd single, there is just something about it. A punchy HARD-FI track that will get you humming away

WE NEED LOVE: That 'gothic' sound makes a welcome return, nice upbeat beat that sounds as though we should all be kicking our legs high in the air as we listen

LITTLE ANGEL: Sounds like the HARD-FI we know and love, i'm sure after a few listens this could become a sing-along track

THE KING: A slower helping, would be better off being fed to that needy ROBBIE WILLIAMS. Not sure if HARD-FI were hoping to have a ROBBIE sound to end their album but they have one, not too shabby but not too great.

SO 330 seconds later....

HARD TO BEAT- The headlining track SURBURBAN KNIGHTS, TELEVISION keeps you upright after the forgettable I CLOSE MY EYES,HELP ME PLEASE may be a reused track, but it's a goodun

UNNECESARY TROUBLE- THE KING, just sounds too ROBBIE WILLIAMS for comfort, as mentioned above I CLOSE MY EYES didn't exactly having me tapping my feet

AND OUT OF 5...

3 OUT OF 5, A very good album that deserves to be bought with actual english currency and listened to a good few times on your mp3 on the way to work. The odd dissapointing track but none to get you hitting the skip button as soon as the first beat kicks in. Always a good sign! Liked the first album? You will enjoy this more so on the second trip I believe, not got the first album? Listen to this one first, then get the superior STARS OF CCTV after!

(ONLY 30 SECONDS OF EACH TRACK WERE LISTENED TO, THESE WERE THE 30 SECONDS iTUNES PROVIDES,THEREFORE THESE MAY NOT BE THE BEST SNIPPETS OF THE SONG. THE ABOVE REVIEW AND SCORE WERE BASED ON 330 SECONDS WORTH OF 'EXTRACTS')
